GY was awesome today :)

Although I think I broke my foot.

Whatever.

Photos of our record-breaking feat will be up soon.

We have!a whole slew of activities this Sept and Oct, so

if you're still blur about things ~~like me~~, read on.

On the 25th of September (next week-Sat) ;

There will be a trip to the Botanical Gardens,

(P.S. tomorrow please confirm with Aunty Agnes whether

you'll be going or not.)

so GY-ians are required to assemble at the GY hall at exactly

2:30 p.m.

The van/bus would most likely leave around 3:00,so latecomers

would have to run after the van/bus.

We'll be back in church around 5:30 or so...:)

On the 2nd and 9th of October ;

There will be NO GY, however Lambert is staring the training for the

future song-leaders, musicians, eg...

so maybe he'll have a practice in church on these dates.

Ask him. :)

On the 16th of October ;

Douglas's dad (Uncle Eddie) is coming to teach us(?) how

to song-lead...or something...yeah...

just a few sentences will do.

Youth Camp

There'll be a Youth Camp!!

Date : 12th - 15th December

Venue : Seminary Theology Malaysia, Seremban

Youth'll depart at the 12th while the kids will come after service on the 13th..

The camp lasts for 4 days (yes, juz a few days T_T)

And the speaker'll be Ps. Chris Hope.

Not bad, huh? =)

Ps Chris is called as an Evangelist and has a powerful anointing to preach the Gospel. Since 1998 he has been the Youth and Young Adults Pastor at Gateway International Church, Geelong, Victoria and was also the director of Geelong Youth Alive for seven years (2000 - 2006).
In January 2007 Chris, along with his wife Sally, launched Unique Reapers International (Global Freedom) and stepped out in faith with the calling to evangelise Asia and raise up a generation to win their world for Jesus.

As this is OUR camp (YAY~!)

All the preparations have to be done before December,

Movie review:G.I.Joe

G.I.Joe has to be the coolest show of 2009.
I went to watch this movie with Phoebe, thinking that this movie
would be another one of those action flicks with explosions in
every scene.
G.I.Joe is an action movie,but it's one of the best there is.
The characters who steal the show
are mainly Duke (Channing Tatum)
and The Baroness (Sienna Miller).
These two characters are well fleshed-out and developed
throughout the movie,which makes them the most interesting
people in G.I.Joe.

This show has GREAT action sequences,effects and car chases,
and all the characters look really cool with their suits and all,
but some might not be too comfortable with the
violence,because many people in the movie
get shot/get run over/get killed/get stabbed/get punched.
And there are also several gory scenes in the movie,
so I think it kinda qualifies as...PG-13.

I don't think there's really a moral value at the end of the movie,
except maybe
'Good guys always win,because that's the way movies go'.
But if you want to watch a movie at the cinema,
this is one movie you should watch.

Here are some info from those who are leaving GY for tertiary education or training.

Eunice was offered fishery by University Malaysia Terengganu. If she is accepting the offer, she would have to be in Terengganu by this Sunday. She would be most likely there for a week or two to check out the course and the place. If she likes it, she will stay on. If not she will do something else.

Jeremy is going to do accounting at Universiti Utara Malaysia in Kedah. His course would be 4 years.

Stanley is having his industry training under CELCOM for 4 months(until October). He will still be around Melaka, but not on weekends when he has to go on roadshows.

That's about all, I think.

Gateway Youth Pyjama Party

Pyjama Party 2009!

I'm not sure how to start,
so I'll just go right in.

The event started with everyone being seperated
into different groupes.
There were 4 groups in all.
The events were a Bible quiz,charades,and
a game where people had to draw things on a whiteboard
according to a list.
Everyone had to choose a number and hear the question
for the number.
Some of the questions in the Bible quiz were HARD!!
But some numbers were really easy though,
it kinda depended on your luck and what number you chose.
I forgot who was in what team...
but you should all know yourself,so yeah...
Group 3 won the competition (WOOTS!!)
and the first prize was bottles of Coke and Pepsi.
The second prize was potato chips.
Everyone got their share of drinks and snacks
at suppertime anyway.
Evangeline took a lot of pictures,so later when she comes
online she will post them.
I took only a few with my handphone,so I'll upload
all I have now.
Thank goodness we have updates.

After suppertime,everyone gathered in the Youth Hall again
to watch "National Treasure:Book of Secrets"
Most of the youth enjoyed the movie,
and Dennis kept on asking questions,LOL.
I didn't pay much attention to the movie though,
I wasn't a Nicholas Cage type of person.
So I just played Guitar Hero on my handphone.
Most of the youth enjoyed the movie,
it was very exciting,it had comedy in it too,
plus a very intelligent and good plot,
a good movie to screen at the Pyjama Party,
but I just don't like Nicholas Cage,so I didn't really get it.
(Sorry!!)

When the movie ended,we switched to "Evan Almighty"
instead,but it sort of jammed half way,so we moved
on to "Mr.and Mrs.Smith"
Thatt was,definitely the best movie of the night.
Although it had a few "explicit" scenes here and there
and we had to keep asking Matthew to close his eyes so as
to not pollute his young brain.lol
But you can just ignore these sort of scenes if you
feel uneasy with them.

The movie ended at 5am,
and by then a few of Youth had already gone to sleep.
By 6am,everyone was sleeping.
Me and Phoebe didn't feel tired though,so
we stayed up the whole night,exercising.
And I'm still not tired now! LOL

Everyone was like super red-eyed and blur waking up
this morning,
after only a few hours of sleep and so many hours of fun.

Hmm.
I'm not sure how to end this post.
So when Evangeline comes online and posts more pics
of the Pyjama Party,she might blog about it too.

Pyjamas Party

The GY will be having a pyjamas party on June 5-6(Fri 9:00pm-Sat 8:00am). It will be held at the church premise and we will be having a Bible quiz, screening a movie, and just talk, talk, talk. So come everyone and if you have not gotten the permission slip for your parents to sign, get them from Bernice Han this coming Saturday/Sunday.

Parent's Nite

The GY will be having a parent's night on August 14. This will be large-scale event(the church will be applying for a permit to set up a tent) and the kids will also be involved. Aunty Agnes needs lots of help... and for those of you who weren't around yesterday(we were made to say out loud that we will help:p)... you are involve in it whether you know it or not. :)

The Children's Bible in a nutshell

In the beginning, which occurred near the start, there was nothing but God, darkness, and some gas. The Bible says, 'The Lord thy God is one, but I think He must be a lot older than that.

Anyway, God said, 'Give me a light!' and someone did.

Then God made the world.

He split the Adam and made Eve. Adam and Eve were naked, but they weren't embarrassed because mirrors hadn't been invented yet.

Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating one bad apple, so they were driven from the Garden of Eden.....Not sure what they were driven in though, because they didn't have cars.

Adam and Eve had a son, Cain, who hated his brother as long as he was Abel.

Pretty soon all of the early people died off, except for Methuselah, who lived to be like a million or something.

One of the next important people was Noah, who was a good guy, but one of his kids was kind of a Ham. Noah built a large boat and put his family and some animals on it. He asked some other people to join him, but they said they would have to take a rain cheque.

After Noah came Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Jacob was more famous than his brother, Esau, because Esau sold Jacob his birthmark in exchange for some pot roast. Jacob had a son named Joseph who wore a really loud sports coat.

Another important Bible guy is Moses, whose real name was Charlton Heston. Moses led the Israel Lights out of Egypt and away from the evil Pharaoh after God sent ten plagues on Pharaoh's people. These plagues included frogs, mice, lice, bowels, and no cable.

One of Moses' best helpers was Joshua who was the first Bible guy to use spies. Joshua fought the battle of Genital and the fence fell over on the town.

After Joshua came David. He got to be king by killing a giant with a slingshot. He had a son named Solomon who had about 300 wives and 500 porcupines. My teacher says he was wise, but that doesn't sound very wise to me.

After Solomon there were a bunch of major league prophets. One of these was Jonah, who was swallowed by a big whale and then barfed up on the shore.

There were also some minor league prophets, but I guess we don't have to worry about them.

After the Old Testament came the New Testament. Jesus is the star of The New. He was born in Bethlehem in a barn. (I wish I had been born in a barn too, because my mom is always saying to me, 'Close the door! Were you born in a barn?' It would be nice to say, 'As a matter of fact, I was.')

During His life, Jesus had many arguments with sinners like the Pharisees and the Democrats.

Jesus also had twelve opossums.

The worst one was Judas Asparagus. Judas was so evil that they named a terrible vegetable after him.

Jesus was a great man. He healed many leopards and even preached to some Germans on the Mount.

But the Democrats and all those guys put Jesus on trial before Pontius the Pilot. Pilot didn't stick up for Jesus. He just washed his hands instead.

Anyways, Jesus died for our sins, then came back to life again. He went up to Heaven but will be back at the end of the Aluminum. His return is foretold in the book of Revolution.

Movie Review : KNOWING

Sci-fi movies are always the best!!
I never did like romance movies...
They were always too boring,stupid and mushy...
Basically I go for violent films...
"Knowing" starring Nicholas Cage isn't very violent,
but is is very sci-fi,
so of course I watched it.
I don't really like Nicholas Cage,
but the movie is kinda about the end of the world,
and I've always wanted to see how that will turn out.

The film opens in Lexington, Massachusetts in 1959,
where a competition is held among the students
of a new elementary school to celebrate its opening.
The winning plan, from student Lucinda Embry
a seemingly mental disorder/mentally disturbed
girl,is to bury a time capsule containing the students'
drawings of the future to be opened 50 years later in 2009.
She is prevented from finishing her image,
which is actually a series of seemingly random
numbers, and goes missing during the ceremony.
Her teacher later finds her in a gym closet,
frantically scratching the remaining numbers into the door.
Fifty years later, the time capsule is opened
and the pictures are handed down to the new
generation of students. Caleb, the son of MIT
professor and astrophysics|astrophysicist John Koestler,
receives Lucinda's envelope.
Initially dismissing them as random numbers,
John notices a single random number sequence,
911012996,
which contains the date of the
September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks|World Trade Center
attacks as well as the death toll of the attack.
Further research leads John to realise the numbers
are a list contain the dates and death tolls
of every major disaster, natural and man made,
that has happened over the past 50 years,
with three that have not occurred yet. When a commercial
plane crash kills 81, the legitimacy of the
list of numbers is confirmed and leading
John to believe that Lucinda had an ability to
prognosticate since childhood until she died.

This is the beginning of the movie,and I won't spell
the rest of it out as it will completely ruin the suspense
as it was a GREAT movie.
The effects were nicely done,
and it had a very intelligent and insightful message...
what with all the numbers and the Maths and the future...
The main characters,the boy and the girl,
were quite cute too.
And everyone knows it takes beautiful people
to kick-start a movie...
It also has a biblical essence,as it takes a few things
out of the Bible and puts it in the movie.
(I don't know whether everyone here is comfortable with that??)
The ending was fantastic,as it really showed
a re-enactment of the beginning of the Earth.
Like...the past repeating itself,
but in a much cooler way...

7 stars upon 5!!
But then,this is my view of the movie,
so don't blame me if you go and see it
and you don't like it...LOL...

Important announcements

1. There would be no GY for the next two weeks ie. on 4/4 and 11/4 so that the youth can concentrate on the Easter play practice. GY resumes on 18/4.

2. The GY trip to Raub on May 1-3 has been cancelled. Several of the adults who were supposed to drive us couldn't make it. Aunty Agnes apologizes for it.

3. The GY camp this December would not be held in El Sanctuary but in Seremban Theological Seminary. The camp dates remain the same. Aunty Agnes would inform of the camp fees later.

Fireproof

Okay, so Debbie said that I have to write a review about Fireproof. I'm not good at writing reviews but I hope this turn out.

Fireproof is about firefighter Caleb Holt and his failing marriage with his wife Catherine. Caleb's father challenged him to commit to a forty-day Love Dare to save his marriage. At first Caleb carried out the challenge half-heartedly. Catherine rejected all his attempts. Frustrated, Caleb asked his dad, "How can I show love to someone over and over and over again when that person keeps rejecting me?" That was the turning point in his life. Caleb's dad told him that Jesus did just that even though we spat into his face. Convicted, Caleb surrendered his life to Christ. However, that is not the end of the story. I won't write more of the synopsis because I strongly urge those who did not come for Friday's screening to get a copy of the DVD.

I watched this movie a few weeks ago at home, but it was completely different from watching it in the church. The atmosphere was different. You could literally hear the gasp when Caleb was in the fire, the 'oooh' when he drank the 'tabasco', the laughter.....

We had a few hiccups during the screening and I felt those spoiled the mood of the viewers. Groans were heard whenever the movie stopped. But nevertheless, we still had a fun time. The pot-blessing was also great. Those of you who missed last night, well, too bad. :)
